A blocked account (Sperrkonto) is a special German bank account that holds a set amount of money to prove you can support yourself during your studies. You can't withdraw it all at once — it releases a fixed monthly amount.

How it works

• You transfer the required amount into the blocked account before your visa appointment
• Once you arrive in Germany, a fixed monthly sum becomes available to you
• The exact required amount is set by German authorities and reviewed periodically
